Shoestring Guide to Hong Kong

Bring your digital camera and get ready, coz if it is not the money honey, you better cut like crazy.

As There is one thing I do best, life is beyond my means. Although not necessarily a laudable trait, it has made me a hardcore bargain hunter for everything – food, sleeping quarters, to clothing, transportation. I can not be rich, I must admit, but street smart – yes I am! Based on my recent budget journey to href = "http://www.travelchacha.com/hongkong-delhi.html"> Hong Kong, I made a system so frugal it will any Pinoy proud. This is for all wanderlusts, who are strapped for cash.

Transport

BUS = U.S. $ 1.00 and up (depending of destination )
You'll be amazed how inexpensive, well organized and safe it is to ride a bus in Hong Kong. There will always be a bus stop nearby, so that you spot. NOT flag a bus in the middle of the road, it will squash you mercilessly! Always choose the second deck seats for the best view.

Double Decker Tram = U.S. $ 0.50 (flat)
Hong Kong cheapest mode of transport! Unfortunately, the route of TRAM has only the Hong Kong Island side. But if you are near you from Causeway Bay, the shark City to Louis Vuitton in Central with only $ 12! Everyone must ride on the tram at least once, the whole old school HK experience.

Star Ferry = U.S. $ 2.00
This is the cheapest and most romantic way to traverse Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

Mass Transit Railway (MTR) = U.S. $ 1.00 – U.S. $ 15.00 (depending on the destination)
Not necessarily cheap, the MTR is the most convenient and my favorite way to go around the city. As they say, once you go MTR you can never return to our local MRT.

Taxis are the most expensive way to get around HK, so if you want a smart traveler just say no and walk to the place you go goes.

Sleep

Clanking MANSION = U.S. $ 15 per person
Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
Do not be scared of the ghetto wall, the Mansion is safe and inexpensive (no pun intended). The place has a relatively clean beds and each room has a private bathroom with hot water in this hotel. Recently featured in Time Magazine, Chun King Mansion is said to the melting pot of races in Hong Kong to be Indians, Middle Eastern people, Nepalese, Sri Lakans, Bangladeshins Nigerians and call it their land.

Entertainment

SYMPHONY The lights = FREE!
Star Ferry Terminal, Kowloon
Every night at exactly 8 hours, a laser show. You hear a musical accompaniment of laser light, thousands and thousands of lights in various buildings bouncing between Hong Kong covers. Green and white laser will shoot from the top of the sky scrappers. This is a wonderful lush experience, best of all, free!

Victoria Peak = U.S. $ 20.00 + + (with food)
Hong Kong Island
The Peak is a UDP destination. The roof platform offers the best 360-degree view of HK! Go around sunset so you see the skyline of HK at night. The cheapest way to get there is through open-top buses. The restaurants and bistros are steep on the price so choose good ol 'McDonalds on the second floor. Get your food and eat al fresco on the terrace.

Ocean Park = U.S. $ 30
This is a happier than Disneyland, especially if you're 13 years old and up! The newest attraction is the SkyFair, here, take a helium balloon with a spectacular view of the coastline and get South China Sea.

Lan Kwai Fong = U.S. $ 10
Central District, Hong Kong
The L-shaped paved runway, the trendiest cafes, bistros, clubs and restos. This place is an expat magnet so if you're in the white boy yuppies your match here. But alcoholic drinks are sold at the bar are worth gold. The solution is to load to the nearest 711 (6pack a Tiger beer cost about P300), sparkling drinks to get to go to Lan Kwai Fong and just go oogling people.

Shop

Mongkok Street Market
Kowloon ongkok street is "The tourist shopping mecca. There are rows of shops selling sports equipment, brand clothing, computer parts, selling comics, collectible toys, mobile phones, etc. The most famous area is the Ladies Market. It is three blocks from the dome tent that stuff sell, you can see in Greenhills. Yet there are good items for sale as cute shopping bags, hardcore rocker belts, bling-quality fake watches and the ubiquitous pasalubong keychains, pens, wallets, t-shirts, etc. If you decide to buy something here you must bargain like your life depended on it. Bargaining in this area as a metaphor for the love of a girl life. Never let them (boys / vendors) that you are in them (boys / items). Always bargain for the best deal which is a 75 percent discount. And if they are not what they want … run. There will a 80 percent chance of the boy / Hawker will indicate what you want to be.

Another tip, if your gonna buy the Hong Kong printed T-shirts the price is good for HK $ 6 shirts 100 (or P100 each)

LAI CHI COOK
Kowloon
This is fashion wholesale paradise! To come here riding on the MTR, go to the Lai Chi Cook Station. Take exit C. Cheap handbags, t-shirts, jeans, belts, accessories, name it here. Bargaining is a must. U.S. $ 30 leather bags you see in the U.S. as expensive shops Only U.S. $ 15 worth here.

H & M
Causeway Bay? Hong Kong To me this is better than the Mango, Sarah, Dorthy Perkin or Top Shop combined. This Swedish brand is the cheapest yet fashionable goods. Fortunately for me and my friends we met during the season and we bought on sale for as low kick ass shirts as P300 and patent leather bags and
P600 cheap! The accessories are wonderful! H and M is suitable for all types of taste whether you're a wannabe hipster like Lindsay Lohan, or a polished trendsetter ala Ashley Olsen. You cannot go wrong with a shop that has acquired the talents of such greats as Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor and Rolf, and yes … Maddona and Kyle

Minogue!

BOSSINI
Dowdy as it may seem brand clothing is practical and looks good enough if you can Decent casual, office attracts. Check out their tees Simpson sold for a steal.

Giordano
Gone are the cheesy Giordano plain tees with frog logos, remember the 90s? In Hong Kong, Giordano has prepared a Concept Store that has become trendy and stylish. Check out their ad which Korean models Superstars including Rain! The concept stores have quality products and designs are minimalist, but well structured. As expected, the stuff is more expensive than the regular goods. A polo can cost U.S. $ 20, but it's worth it!
The question now is what happened Giordano Philippines?

HMV
CD Heaven, enough said.

FRIENDS DOG Fashion
Kowloon
Hipster clothing street fashonistas will enjoy. I bought a trench coat plaster on a price of U.S. $ 20.00 from U.S. $ 100

Eats

Food in Mongkok STREET AREA = U.S. $ 2.00
The way the Chinese cook their food Hawker gross, but maybe it's good boy. Get authentic dim sum, pork buns, shrimp dumplings and Chinese

Tea Here!

Popeye's Chicken = U.S. $ 12.00
Order the chicken and the bread. Super worth it!

EGG TART = U.S. $ 0.40
This is Macau dessert specialty, but HK version is also great. Buy from a local bakery

DAN Ryans Chicago GRILL U.S. $ 25
Best clam chowder, hands.
