Fire Pits: Campfire Coziness for Year-Round Outdoor Living

Fire pits are the newest must-have garden accessory, not least because they allow you to continue outdoor living and entertaining in the colder months. Who doesn’t love that campfire atmosphere? Fire pits are a great way to get that cozy campfire feeling in your own backyard and make the most of your outdoor space when the weather turns wintry. Rawgarden.co.uk, quality garden furniture and accessories retailer, has one of the best ranges of fire pits available online, with one to suit every outdoor space.

A fire pit is such a fantastic addition to the garden, you wonder how you ever did without one. They are of course a great source of heat, allowing you to enjoy your garden or decking in autumn and winter, but you can also cook on many of them, from simple marshmallows to full meals. Barbecues need not just be for the summer months; fire pits with large grills can cook up a feast. And warming yourself around an outdoor fire and cooking sausages under the stars need not just be for Bonfire Night; channel that cozy feeling as soon as the clocks go back in your own garden with a tripod Bon-Fire fire pit.

Fire pits are also a great source of ambient lighting for your outdoor area. Light up a fire pit and your guests will gravitate outside to enjoy the garden or terrace lit warmly by the fire. Even the smallest patch of lawn is elevated to chic with a few candles, some fairy lights and a crackling fire pit. And because it’s wonderfully relaxing to simply stare hypnotically into the flames, you’ll find yourself lighting your fire pit even if it’s just you and the dog there to enjoy the campfire atmosphere.

At Rawgarden.co.uk you can choose from Urban fire pits to co-ordinate with a modern and minimalist home decoration, or Steel Fireplace fire pits for a more traditional look. If you like the cooking aspect of fire pits then a grill style may be best for you, but if it’s primarily a heat and light source that you’re looking for, then the Rawgarden Reflection Fire Pit is perfect. Visit http://www.rawgarden.co.uk and stir the embers of your imagination as to how you could use a fire pit.

Rawgarden is a retailer of top-quality garden furniture and accessories; everything you could need for your outdoor area, from garden benches and gazebos to sun loungers and garden parasols.

Why do you cook food OVER a campfire?

Why cook over a campfire when you can put the food in the fire. It would take hours to cook a chicken over a campfire so why not just put the chicken in the fire and wait for a while and eat it? Wouldn’t it still be cooked but faster?

the outside would be burn and the inside would not get cooked all the way if you put the food in the middle of the fire.

Make Camp Cooking Easy – Be Organised

Instead of throwing a mixture of food in a box when you are packing to go camping and hoping for the best. Organise beforehand what you are going to have for each meal. Let’s say you are going for a long weekend and you are arriving on Saturday morning at your campsite and leaving Monday afternoon. That will be 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 2 dinners.

Organise what you will have for each meal and pack that food with a bit of spare tin or packet food.  Do meals that are easy to prepare with minimum clean up afterwards and similar to what you would do at home, especially if you are new to camping.

It does depend on what cooking equipment you have as to what you can cook, a gas stove & BBQ would be the most common, then you will be frying or cooking in a saucepan. If you have a campfire as well than you may use a camp oven and cook a roast or a stew which is quite easy to do.

Here is a few popular camping foods that are easy to cook and prepare

Pancakes with butter and syrup are great for breakfast or sweets, the mixture can be bought ready just add water to make pancakes very easy.

Hamburgers are easy, just add the rolls or bread with lettuce, sauce, cheese etc.

Eggs, onion and bacon in a muffin, or a plateful.  Great for any meal time.

Pasta is a quick and easy meal. Cook the meat and add the pasta and sauce.

A Barbecue meal is always popular, sausages, chops, steak, onion and any extras.

Cooking Marshmallows on the campfire is fun if you like them cooked, if not eat them out of the bag.

Breakfast cereals are easy, just add milk. If you have a campfire cooking toast early in the morning is fun, campfire toast is far better than pop up toast.

Fruit, popcorn and muesli bars are easy snacks  Hot drinks like Milo, coffee, tea are great when it’s cold, also cup a soup is easy.

Cold drinks like juice, milk and water are necessary, pack the beer and wine too.

Do you have a favourite easy camp food?

Campfire Safety

Campfires are made at campsites to provide light, warmth and for cooking. It has become an integral part of camping. Campfires are places of joy, warmth and merry making. People come close together during a campfire and enjoy themselves around the fire.

The place for a campfire should be chosen carefully. As most of the camps are made in forest areas, the region surrounding the campfire area should be free from vegetation and should not contain any inflammable material within its near vicinity.

Usually timber is used as the fuel for making campfires. Artificial fuels are not normally used. Different traditions have different methods to make campfires. The arrangement of timbers and the construction of the site vary from different cultures. Lighting the fire can be done with a matchstick or with a lighter. Artificial fuel like gasoline can be used to ignite the fire in the initial stage if the wood available is damp and if the conditions are not favorable for natural ignition.

Campfire activities are of different types. Primarily from time immemorial campfires were used for cooking. There are a variety of food materials which are specially made during campfires. Campfires also serve as a venue for recreation. Various recreational activities are done during campfire meetings like singing, dancing story telling etc. There are various traditions associated with campfires. For example the scouts who make campfire will take the ashes from the fire and mix it with water and share it with their fellow members to mark the closing ceremony of a campfire. This emphasizes their brotherhood and harmony.

Campfires are places of joyous gatherings if properly dealt with, or else can turn to disaster if not safely monitored. Campfires should be made by taking precautions, as fire can go out of control anytime, anyplace. It can cause burns to individuals and it can spread rapidly and can cause larger losses. Huge forest fires have been a result of irresponsible campfire gatherings. It has lead to mass destruction of flora and fauna. Precautions should be taken and even the effect of natural elements like wind should be taken into account during a campfire. The remains of a campfire should be properly extinguished or else it can lead to disasters if left carelessly. The natural and most effective way to extinguish fire is to use water; sand can also be used to bring the fire under control.

Camping is an outdoor recreational activity. The participants, known as campers, leave urban areas, their home region, or civilization and enjoy nature while spending one or several nights, usually at a campsite, which may have cabins. Camping may involve the use of a tent, a primitive structure, or no shelter at all.Camping as a recreational activity became popular in the early 20th century. Campers frequent national parks, other publicly owned natural areas, and privately owned campgrounds.Camping is also used as a cheap form of accommodation for people attending large open air events such as sporting meetings and music festivals.
