Cooking Network – An Insider’s Guide to The Food Network
You’ve always loved eating, but the time has come to start cooking for yourself. Whether you’re a new graduate looking to leave behind your top ramen days or a foodie lacking kitchen skills, entering the cooking world is no small task. That’s why the Food Network is around — a resource for culinary aficionados and amateurs alike. But with so many different chefs to choose from, where do you start? We’ve created a guide to the help you navigate the Food Network and get going on your culinary adventures.
Paula Deen
The South’s most popular chef, Paula Deen is known for her filling, hearty and wholesome Southern cooking. With guidance from grandma at a young age, Paula fought her way to find success doing the thing she loves most — feeding people. Her famous chicken pot pies, banana pudding and BBQ sandwiches put her on the culinary map in Georgia, and remain recipe favorites for her widespread television audience.
Rachael Ray
This much loved talk show host prides herself on being a cook — not a chef. Her quick fix meals and budget dinner ideas are very useful to new cooks with money and time restrictions. Although Rachael shies away from boasting about her culinary finesse, she’s a teacher in her own right. Watch her chop with abandon and toss together meals that look like they’ve taken hours to prepare. If you study her way around the kitchen, you’ll be a top cook in no time.
Aaron McCargo, Jr.
Aaron McCargo was once a struggling chef who yearned for a place in the culinary spotlight. After beating out thousands of culinary hopefuls and landing his own time slot, Aaron found his calling as a Food Network personality. As the host of Big Daddy’s House, Aaron imparts his love of big, bold flavors and family-style cooking to a dedicated audience. With an inviting smile and warm personality, this trained chef makes cooking a relaxing experience that the whole family can share. If you’re looking for some home-style chili or buffalo wings, Aaron’s your man.
Alton Brown
As the kookiest cook in the kitchen, Alton Brown dissects a recipe like it’s a science project. For novice meal makers who need a step-by-step tutorial for crafting a dish, this Food Network host is the best cooking counselor out there. Good Eats blends Alton’s training at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont, experience as a cinematographer, and undeniable flair for food. Not only does Good Eats offer a crash course in food prep 101, its historical approach to mealtime is sure to captivate any cook.
Giada De Laurentiis
Putting a fresh spin on Italian cuisine, Giada knows how to make dinner delectable for eaters of any age. Her acclaimed cookbooks and food products make it easy to cook like her, with or without the TV on. Giada grew up surrounded by Italian culture: Born in Rome and the granddaughter of a restaurateur, the culinary school graduate went on to train under Wolfgang Puck. Her Emmy-winning cooking show, Everyday Italian, speaks to an audience that strives to cook better with every attempt. She also explores the food and restaurant selection from around the U.S. on her prime time show, Giada’s Weekend Getaways…Because a good trip is never without a good meal.

About the Author
what do you think of the next food network star season 6?
personally i think aarti or brad should win. Aarti has a unique culinary point of view which food network really needs and brad is so hot (not the full reason why he should win) I feel he is a cool guy becuz he is in his twenties and has proved that even if he is young he can cook like a pro and he can give that confidence to millions of kids who want to become a chef when they get older. I really dont think Brianna or Paul should win. Brianna is rude, annoying and no one like the attitude from her. Paul is the like her but not with an attitude. I like Serena, but i feel there shouldnt be another italian show becuz we already have giada. Tom Aria and Herb are okay i wouldnt mind if they won. What are your opinions?
Aarti is my favorite I’m rooting for her. She has a great personality and like you said a unique culinary point. She is bubbly and fun.I agree about Brianna, I liked her at first, but now she just seems stuck up. Paul is just creepy. Serena is okay but it’s hard to understand her sometimes because of her accent and her talking so fast. I like Aria as well, she could do a fun family show.

Weeknights with Giada: $22.05 For the first time, bestselling author and beloved Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis tackles weeknight cooking with recipes that come together quickly--all in her signature fresh style. As Jade grows up and schedules get busier, Giada has developed fantastic go-to recipes to get a delicious meal on the table in a flash. Here is Giada at her most inventive--and at her most laid back. Flavor, freshness, and fun take center stage while cooking times, pots dirtied, and stress are kept to a minimum. All of the soups, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, meat, and fish dishes come together quickly, most in half an hour or less. If you have eggs on hand but not much else, you can still pull together a great meal with the Breakfast for Dinner chapter. Leftovers are reinvented into healthy yet hearty main-course salads such as Roasted Salmon, Snap Pea, and Cucumber Salad and Chicken, Bibb and Arugula Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette. While Giada's recipes remain predominantly Italian, some California-global influences sneak in, as they do on her show, including Spicy Mint Beef and Thai Turkey Lettuce Wraps. Even desserts are quick to mix and bake, should a weeknight craving--or a last-minute school bake sale--strike. Where Giada at Home gave readers a peek into Giada's home life--with shots of her and Jade making pasta, and Todd helping Giada at the stove--Weeknights with Giada is an even more intimate look into her day-to-day family life. Chock-full of gorgeous color photos, Weeknights with Giada will be a new favorite for longtime fans--and a new kind of handbook for home cooks everywhere. |

She’s taught us every facet of Italian cooking--from traditional and regional to seasonal and contemporary. She even made us fall in love with pasta again by opening us up to lighter, healthier versions that don’t weigh us down. Now the Food Network star and bestselling author of Everyday Pasta, Giada De Laurentiis, takes us down a new path, sharing her love of food with clean, vibrant, simple flavors and bursts of bright colors that look as beautiful on the plate as they are delicious. Yes, you will still find those fabulous recipes she remembers so fondly from family meals, but you’ll also find updated twists on classic trattoria favorites--California-inflected, hearty but not overwhelming, and with the perfect balance of healthfulness and terrific flavor. Wouldn’t you love a faster, lighter take on osso buco (here made with turkey instead of veal), a salad with real substance (like one of cantaloupe, red onion, and walnuts), and fish that gets an Italian makeover by way of lots of fresh veggies and accents such as fennel and grapefruit salsa? And let’s not forget dessert. After all, what’s not to adore about little doughnuts dipped in chocolate sauce? Ranging from soups and snacks to easy entrées and elegant dinner-party fare, Giada’s recipes are perfect for any day of the week. And for the first time, she includes a full section of dishes that the little ones will love making as much as they love eating (like mini chicken meatballs). With something to please everyone at your table, Giada’s Kitchen deliciously demonstrates why Giada De Laurentiis has become America’s best-loved Italian cook. Giada’s interest in the culinary arts began with her roots. Her passion for food was sparked as a child as she learned to prepare recipes for her frequent family gatherings. In her New York Times bestseller Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis introduced us to the basic, fresh flavors of her native Italian cuisine. Now, America's favorite Italian cook is back with a new batch of simple, delicious recipes geared toward family meals--Italian style. These unpretentious and flavorful meals are at the center of some of Giada's warmest memories of sitting around the table with her family, passing bowls of wonderful food, and laughing over old times. Recipes for soups like Escarole and Bean and hearty sandwiches such as the classic Italian Muffuletta make casual, easy suppers, while one-pot dinner like Giada's Chicken Vesuvio and Veal Stew with Cipollini Onions are just as simple but elegant enough for company. You'll also find recipes for holiday favorites you'll be tempted to make all year round, including Easter Pie, Turkey and Ciabtta Stuffing with Chestnuts and Pancetta, and Panettone Bread Pudding with Amaretto Sauce. Giada at Home: $24.95 "Since her debut on Food Network in 2002 with the hit program "Everyday Italian," Giada De Laurentiis has been enticing Americans with her updated twists on Italian favorites. Her dedication to ease, healthfulness, and-—above all else-—flavor have won her a permanent place in the hearts of home cooks. In Giada at Home, she shares a personal look into how she cooks for those dearest to her, with simple recipes inspired by her television show of the same name. Born in Italy, Giada was raised in Los Angeles by a gregarious Italian family. While her grandmother, aunt, and mother brought her up on generations-old recipes, Giada also became enamored with the bright and clean flavors of California’s abundant seasonal fruits and vegetables. Giada at Home presents recipes from both traditions, all with Giada’s signature style. She shares classic Italian recipes passed down through the years, like cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in salty prosciutto, creamy risotto with the earthy and deep flavors of mushrooms and gorgonzola, and lamb chops basted with honey and balsamic vinegar. New family favorites include grilled asparagus and melon, game hens roasted with citrus and herbs, and a sorbet made with pomegranate and mint, all bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. No meal would be complete without the company of family and Giada particularly enjoys bringing her loved ones together over meals. For the first time, she incorporates her go-to brunch recipes—what she cooks when setting up a feast on her back patio for everyone on weekend mornings—from Jade-approved Panini, with gooey mozzarella, luscious raspberries, and a sprinkling of brown sugar, to Todd’s favorite pancetta-studded waffles scented with cinnamon. No matter which recipe you choose—classic or contemporary—Giada at Home makes gathering the favorite people in your life for fabulous weeknight meals and family celebrations delicious and easy. |
