Grilled Shrimp Recipe

Did you know that shrimp come in more than 300 variety? While there may be a general understanding of the types of shrimp being sold in the supermarket as cooked or raw, there are more labels that can be added to shrimp. However, these names are not specie, but are instead just synonyms. For instance prawn and scampi are synonyms for shrimp while gulf shrimp only indicates where the shrimp originated.

Prawns

Now, what is the distinction between a prawn and a shrimp? None, a prawn is a shrimp and vice versa. Some areas and even some countries call them prawns, while others refer to them shrimp. Some places use the word prawn to describe a really large shrimp. Other regions simply refer to them as large shrimp.

Scampi

This is another tricky term. The waters off Italy are home to a crustacean called scampi, and in Italian the word is actually one word for shrimp. But the dish we call shrimp scampi, refers to any type of shrimp cooked with garlic and butter or olive oil.

Enthusiastic fishing has made these crustaceans rare today and what is often caught as scampi are actually another type of shrimp called a Norwegian shrimp, or even a Dublin Bay prawn. True scampi are actually not even technically shrimp, since they have huge front pincers, making them lobsters.

So, really there are two main classifications of shrimp: freshwater shrimp and saltwater shrimp. The freshwater kinds of shrimp grow distinctively large and are usually treated like lobsters, that is, they are shipped live, and cooked like lobsters. Saltwater shrimp sub classify into cold water or warm water types depending on where they live.

Grilled Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients

2 lb. Fresh or frozen jumbo shrimp, shelled and deveined

½ cup olive oil

½ cup finely chopped onion

½ cup dry white wine

¼ cup lemon juice

¼ cup finely chopped parsley

1 tbs Worcestershire

1 tbsp dill weed

½ tsp salt

Directions

1.Thaw shrimp if frozen

2.Combine following 8 ingredients

3.Put shrimp in a plastic bag; set in a deep bowl

4.Pour marinade over shrimp, close bag

5.Marinate for 3 to 4 hours

6.Drain shrimp, reserve marinade

7.Put shrimp on skewers

8.Grill over hot coals for 10 minutes, turning and brushing with reserved marinade

9.When shrimp turns opaque, they are done.

Using Simple Cooking Recipes for Special Occasion

We all have those moments in our lives when we feel as if everything needs to be exactly right. It is these moments that we often refer to as special occasions. When it comes to cooking for special occasions, many of us find that we drop the ball in our anticipation and feel as though we have ruined the moment. Another great idea when it comes to cooking for special occasions is to prepare as much as possible ahead of time in order to alleviate the pressure during the event and to allow you more time to enjoy the event rather than dealing with the details of meal preparation. The greatest gift you can really give yourself when cooking for special occasions is the time necessary in order to enjoy these special occasions. This is not to say that there isn’t some cooking that will need to be done.

Foods that can be prepared ahead of time and reheated just prior to serving are often the best when it comes to cooking for special occasions. There are all kinds of appetizers, entrees and desserts that will work perfectly in this particular instance. You can often find them by performing a simple Google search online or by sorting through many of your favorite cookbooks at home. The important thing is that you do not get so caught up in the idea of cooking for special occasions that you forget to actually enjoy the occasion.

If this is not the way you prefer to do things that is perfectly understandable. Some of us do thrive in high stress situations. The key for those who prefer to do all the meal preparation when cooking for special occasions at the time of cooking is planning properly and allowing plenty of time for possible hiccups in the process. Mistakes occur when people feel rushed and hurried in their culinary efforts.

Another common mistake that is made when cooking for special occasions is cooking outside of your comfort zone. When you are preparing a challenging recipe it is best if you do this during a time when you are not going through the stress of potential visitors or insuring the best possible of circumstances. In other words, it is best to challenge your culinary talents when you do not have a vested interest in success.

Special occasions are a great time for friends and family. The hope is that you will have many special occasions throughout your life. Do not waste too much time and energy fretting over cooking for special occasions. Instead, put all of your effort into enjoying those occasions.

jalapenio pepper
cream cheese
bacon

To prepare you must cut a slit in your jumbo shrimp, and stuff as full as you want with cream cheese.

Add your jalapeno pepper inside the slit that you put your cream cheese into

wrap your shrimp with bacon

Put your now prepared shrimp on your bbq grill, and cook until done on all sides .

And YUM!

Grilled Shrimp Salad

1/4 lb. shrimp (any size)
1 tsp. tarragon leaves
1 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. creole seasoning (in seasoning aisle at supermarket)
2 heads butter lettuce
4 tbsp. chopped black olives
2 tbsp. croutons
2 tbsp. shredded cheese (any kind)

Rinse shrimp and pat dry.

Season shrimp with tarragon, pepper, and creole seasoning. Toss shrimp with fingertips to mix seasoning well.

Place shrimp on grill for 5 minutes. Electric grill should be on 450 degrees.

Place shrimp on plate to cool down.

Combine lettuce, black olives, croutons, and shredded cheese in large mixing bowl. Separate into two bowls.

Place shrimp on top of each salad and add dressing as desired. Tastes great with balsamic vinaigrette, but choose what you like.

Skewered Lemongrass Shrimp

Use your fingers to peel away the first layer or two from each stalk of lemongrass.

Cut the stalks into 10- to 12-inch sections. Chop up the remaining lemongrass and add it to your marinade, if you’re using one.

Use a sharp kitchen knife to whittle a point on the small end of each skewer.

Peel and devein the shrimp.

Thread the shrimp on the lemongrass stalks by piercing them first through the thick part and then through the smaller part, so the skewer runs through each shrimp twice.

Thread about four shrimp on each skewer.

Paint the skewers with the Asian marinade of your choice, if desired, or use teriyaki marinade.

Build a hot grill fire. Cook the shrimp on a hot grill for about 3 minutes, turning only once.

Serve, using the lemongrass skewers as handles.

Enjoy!
