The Turnips Diet

Diet is very difficult, especially when everything around you looks so good! But we all know the problem with things that look, taste and smell good, Most of the time its full of too much sugar, too much salt, too much oil, and really just too much risk to health.

Of course if you ate well, eg if you ate lots of vegetables then your diet days are over! It’s really a simple change in lifestyle, eating turnips that are remarkably low in calories, are delicious, cheap and they do wonders for your health and figure.

You could always go for other vegetables, of course, but you must pick them up very well and frankly it’s hard to do better than the turnips. Potatoes, for instance tastes delicious! God bless the potato, but they are full of calories and carbohydrates that you are just going to bloat in a nanosecond. Potatoes are a very dangerous plant!

A cup of boiled turnips are only 34 calories! And 5 grams of carbohydrates! How awesome is that? When I heard that, I start my Diet changed to include the rape more often in my meals. It only made sense to me that if I wanted to get most of my life, I had to make these changes for myself.

The best part about swedes are not only that they are low in calories, but they have a remarkable punch when it comes to blow you away with vitamins. You can get 15 percent of the recommended vitamin C intake to only pick. So if you mix and match your vegetables, your health fee will be great.

You does not go as far as to become vegetarian, but adopting a lifestyle that includes mostly fruits is really the best way to go.

Recipes: Soup, Stew, and Chili – Oh My!

When the cold weather comes creeping in, one of the first foods we go in search of is something warm and savory; a dish that you can leave in the pot or slow cooker all day and munch on whenever you’re peckish. Soups, stews, and chili are on the top of the list for such dishes, as they are both hardy and deliciously warm! In this article we have a few recipes that are bound to add a little warmth to the winter months ahead.

English Beef Stew

Ingredients:
stewing beef (as much or little as you like)
2 turnips (peeled, chopped)
3 parsnips (chopped)
3 large carrots (chopped)
5 large potatoes (peeled, chopped)
2 large leeks (chopped)
1/2 red onion (chopped)

Place the stewing beef in a large pot and fill with water until the beef is one inch below the water’s surface. Cover and cook on a medium heat for an hour. Add the turnips and onions, turn the heat to a medium low, and cook for another hour. Add parsnips and carrots then cook for another hour. Add leeks and potatoes, as well as parsley, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook for an hour and a half. Make 2 cups of brown gravy (thick) and add to the pot. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 20 minutes, then serve.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients:
3 cups diced, cooked chicken meat
2 1/2 cups wide egg noodles
12 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/3 cup cornstarch
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 1/2 tablespoons salt

In a large pot, add water and boil egg noodles and oil for about 8 minutes. Drain and rinse with cool water. In the same large pot (or a Dutch oven, if you prefer), mix broth, poultry seasoning, and salt together and bring to a boil. Stir in the celery and onion and reduce the heat. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes. In a mixing bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the water. Add to soup while stirring continuously. Add in the noodles and chicken and allow to heat thoroughly. Serve with dumplings or rolls.

Beef Chili via Slow Cooker

Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
1 (15 oz) can pinto beans, drained
1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 (46 oz) can tomato juice
1 (29 oz) can tomato puree
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Brown the meat using a skillet. When the meat has browned, combine all ingredients into a slow cooker. Set to a low heat and cook for about 8 hours (overnight is great). Serve with saltines or oyster crackers.

6 Different Types of Healthy Cooking Methods?

Cooking looks to be a natural skill to others it’s fraught with danger and disaster. Cooking need not be scary, let us analyze few of the primary cooking techniques and show you how simple it really is.

Once, you professional one or two of these cookery techniques, you’ll then be prompted and self confident to try few of the others. Skills you pick up in one method could easily be applied for other.

Simply relax and enjoy it.

Baking:

This is a cooking process that cooks food in the oven by dry heat. Like a cooked potato. Baking is as well used to describe the cooking method of cookies, bread, and cakes

Roasting:

Just like baking this cooking process uses the oven, but it’s generally used for vegetables and meat. Roasting usually asks some fat added up to protect the food and keep it wet while it’s cooked at a relatively high temperature. It’s better to use tender cuts of meat for roasting and cook it in a shallow tin to admit the air to spread. This will also help in the meat surface turning an appetizing brown. Make sure to turn the cooking juices into gravy to accompany the meat. Along with the meat you can join many vegetable including: carrots, potato, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, tomatoes, fennel, peppers, parsnips, aubergines, garlic and turnips.

Basting:

This is the easy process of keeping fish, meat or poultry moist whilst roasting in the oven. All you need to do is spoon the fats and cooking juices over the meat various times while cooking. This will help keep it moist add flavor and better the visual aspect of the cooked meat. If you run out of cooking juices in the roasting tin then you can add up a bit stock or wine.

Grilling:

Grilling is an incredibly speedy and easy process of cooking, which is as well healthy. The food is cooked applying radiant heat. This makes sure that the outside of the food is also well cooked and browned whilst the inside stays moist. The grill needs to be preheated and the food napped with oil to apply some protection from the severe heat. Barbecuing is the out of door equivalent of grilling and is appropriate for all the foods listed below though it produces a smokier flavor.

Use good quality tender foods like – chicken, steak, sausages, chops and whole fish like trout and fish cutlets and fillets like salmon and cod. Vegetables such as aubergines, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and onions are also suitable for grilling.

Griddling:

A griddle used to refer to a flat metal plate, which was used to cook cakes and drop scones on top of the stove. Today the tem to griddle pertains to a ridged griddle pan alike to a frying pan it’s a ridged surface, which patterns the food with appetizing brown stripes. It’s newly become popular due to its use by many TV chefs. It’s a healthy way of cooking due to only a light brushing of oil being required. Griddling is suitable for salmon fillets, squid, chicken, steaks and shellfish, and for vegetables such as courgettes, aubergines, onions and peppers.

Deep Fat frying:

This is the frying method where the food is completely immersed in hot fat. It needs to be really hot and commonly cooks the food speedily. Better oils for this are Soya bean oil and corn oil but groundnut oil is the best. In order to deep fry foods with success they need a protective coating to avoid drying out. The two most popular coatings are breadcrumbs and batter and these are most generally applied on chicken, fish, chips and seafood with a new fad being the mars bar. You’ve credibly seen this process of cooking performed several times before at your local store. A deep big pan is utilized to heat the oil and a wire basket used to lift the food out. More care is need because the oil is exceedingly hot and it could be quite harmful.
