Romanian Holidays – 9 Reasons to Visit Soon

Less than 20 years ago Romania was an isolated, unknown land hidden behind the Iron Curtain, but now it is an EU country visited by an increasing number of curious visitors.

Romania is a place sometimes shrouded in mystery, a country that inspired the Count Dracula story and where many legends live on in the untouched countryside. It is also a modern, dynamic country keen to embrace the outside world.

Mountains: The Carpathians, a continuation of the Alps, cover much of the country’s interior. The best-known resort of Poiana Brasov doubles as a ski resort in winter and an activity centre in summer, while Sinaia was the summer residence of Romanian kings.

Vampires: The very name of Transylvania is enough to send a shiver down your spine, as this mountainous region inspired the Dracula legend. You won’t be surprised that the legend is “bled” for all its worth – but Vlad the Impaler was in fact a real character from the medieval town of Sighisoara.

Rural tranquillity: You don’t have to drive far off a main road to discover a deeply rural country where the land is still worked by hand, with ancient fortified churches and tiny villages. Farm accommodation is starting to develop.

Charming cities: Brasov, Sighisoara and Sibiu are small cities which developed in the middle ages, and are now re-emerging as tourism and culture locations. A fly-drive holiday combining cities and mountains is just perfect.

City on a grand scale: The Communist dictator Ceausescu certainly left his mark in the capital Bucharest’s huge squares and boulevards. His palace – now the “People’s Palace” – is the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon.

Wildlife: Deep in the mountains you will still find wolves, and bears are a common sight in the Carpathians. The Danube Delta is a fine area for bird watchers.

Beaches: The Black Sea coast includes about 150 miles of Romanian territory, with lots of sand and a season running from May to October. Ugly development during the Communist era has spoiled resorts such as Mamaia and Neptun, but the port city of Constanta has character.

History: Many civilisations have left their mark in Romania, and castles and palaces can be found throughout. The painted Orthodox monasteries of Bucovina are a national treasure.

Food and drink: Romanian fare is hearty and usually meat-based, with much use of herbs. Full bodied red wines are a speciality of Transylvania.

The are few European countries as individual as Romania. Its turbulent history and long period of isolation mean it is endlessly fascinating – but it’s changing fast: now is the time to take a holiday in Romania.

Does anybody know ROMANIAN RECIPES?

Hi everyone! Ok, so my friend is Romanian and I want to cook him some authentic traditional Romanian food because he was in college and rarely if ever a hot meal. Anyone have any recipes they could share with me? One million thanks in advance!

Stuffed tomatoes with eggplant (Rosii umplute cu vinette) 1 large eggplant 3 tablespoons oil 2 onions, tomatoes, parsley, salt pepper Fry the eggplant, let it drain well and chop with a wooden or glass chopper. Situated in a bowl and mix with the oil poured bit by bit. Add chopped onion, salt and pepper. Choose small, firm tomatoes and remove the inside with all the seeds. Fill with the eggplant mixture and place all the stuffed tomatoes on a platter and decorate them with a sprig of parsley for each tomato. You can also use stuffing peppers instead of tomatoes. The Salata beef (Beef salad / chicken salad) 4-5 potatoes, 1 carrot, a parsley root, 1 parsnip (optional) 1 large celeriac, a handful of green peas, 2 cucumbers, 1 / 2 lb/250 g chicken breast or beef sirloin, 300g mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon mustard, salt. You get the best beef salad by boiling the vegetables with the meat (soup). Cut the potatoes and other vegetables. The same goes for the meat and pickles. Place everything in a bowl, add the peas and salt. In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise and mustard. Add 3 / 4 of the mayonnaise mixture to the meat and vegetables and mix well. Arrange on a serving plate. Smooth with a knife and then cover with the remaining mayonnaise mixture. Garnish with a few olives, hard boiled egg white, or egg slices, pickled red peppers, parsley, etc. Try flowers, designs form. Romanian Style Polenta * mamaliga a qt. Water, 1-2 cups corn flour, 2 teaspoons. salt Boil water and salt in a pot. When the water boils, gradually add cornmeal, stirring the mixture with a whisk. Stop adding corn flour if the mixture is considerably thick, but still liquid. Continue to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, with caution because the mixture bubbles and splatters hot polenta around. Remove from heat and serve with your favorite dish. You can also use the web to view other recipes. : Www.windowtoromania.org / recipes.asp Pofta Buna and Good Luck! Enjoy the meal!

Authentic Romanian Recipes

In general, Romanians like eating different delicious kinds of food. Here you will find authentic Romanian recipes, which are usually cooked on special occasions, or you can try them whenever you want. Therefore, you can find out two recipes: traditional cheese ball and cabbage rolls. You know that if they want to eat something nice, Romanians do not waste time, so let's start with the cheese ball, which can be found in the list of all the authentic Romanian recipes books. This dish is ready in about one hour. The necessary ingredients are 350 grams corn flour, half teaspoon of salt, 1 liter and half of water, for a corn flour sauce. Then, for the stuff, you need 4 eggs, 50 grams butter and 300 g of cheese, preferably two different kinds. Here we mention that the best cheese for this dish are bellows cheese (Branza the burduf) and a type of salt cheese called "telemea". First, you cook a pretty soft corn flour sauce and cook the eggs. Meanwhile, you must have a clay pot, which is a symbol of the authentic Romanian recipes. For best results, you get to keep the pot in cold water for 15 minutes, then rub with lots of butter, the cheese ball sticking to the pot. When the cornstarch sauce is ready, you pour one third of it in the pot, and on top of the bellows cheese after you flaked with a fork, a little butter (about 1 teaspoon) and the two halves of eggs. Then cover with another third of the corn flour sauce, and set the salty cheese, along with the other two eggs and finally the last layer of cornmeal sauce. To continue, cabbage rolls are known in the list of authentic Romanian recipes. It is true that it will cost you about half hour to prepare them, and if you want cooking in the oven, you can use them to spend one hour and half. The ingredients you need are 1 kilo chopped 2 medium onions, a bunch of green, 200 grams of rice, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 1 teaspoon salt, half teaspoon pepper, 2 bay leaves, hot pepper, medium sized sauerkraut (which you should keep in the water so the salt off, two hours before). U can also use raw cabbage, but you must first burn it. As far as equipment is concerned, you need specific utensils, and Romanian clay pot. Besides, as domestic devices, you can use the stove, which obviously needs an oven, food processor, or mince maker. Hack meat using a food processor or a meat maker. Mix the ground beef with rice, chopped onion, green, even after you cut with a knife, tomato paste, salt and pepper. Then you choose cabbage leaves and put the mixture on them and roll them. These two authentic Romanian recipes are an essential expression of the Romanian courts in the past, that rich farmer and shepherd, who used to enjoy eating, drinking a few natural wine or brandy and then telling jokes and feel good.

Romanian Agriculture and Transition Toward the Eu

Romanian Agriculture and Transition Toward the Eu

$125.78

Of the ten Central and Eastern European countries that have applied for membership in the European Union, Romania ranks among the largest and most impoverished. Romania represents the final challenge in the European Unions enlargement to the east, largely due to its major, but underdeveloped, agriculture and food sectors. The agriculture industry, which is a major component of the national economy, extends its pervasive influence to both Romanian social life and environment. Consequently, the transition towards a market oriented economic system will pose new obstacles for the countrys farmers, processors, traders, and policymakers. While identifying the impediments that surround Romanian agriculture and its inevitable progression towards transition is a simple task, the challenges lie in recommending solutions. Through careful analysis of numerous recent studies on reform policies in the Romanian agrifood sector during its economic transition, this comprehensive examination offers perspicacious suggestions and insights on the following topics in particular: international trade, credit for agricultural development, price policies, and rural development. The conclusions reached are not only of domestic importance and application, they are also of immediate relevance for many postsocialist countries, for which the agrifood sector is a principal vehicle for rural development.
