Ovo Lacto Vegetarian Cooking – The new, healthy replacement to your menu

Dropping meat ingredients in your menu often changes the taste, even if what would normally said a mouth-watering recipe appears to be "just one dish on your buffet table.

Amidst an age at which people health conscious tent the idea of replacing meat as an ingredient in a recipe is a growing practice of people who may want to determine in what is popularly known as healthy life — less alcohol, drop smoking, regular exercise, dropping high cholesterol foods and more vegetables on the menu.

But what would a sensible alternative to meat? Plant meat, vegetarian burgers, tofu, tempeh, seitan (wheat gluten) and beans to the list of suggestions that could fit as a substitute for the high-cholesterol meat products.

Plant flesh, which usually refers to form what could be bought at the supermarket as veggie burgers is a good alternative to meat for lacto-ovo vegetaqrian cooking.

Tofu is another, a great meal, accompanied by sauces because of its porous structure and nature makes. There is another type of this meat substitute, wet tofu recommended for baking, grilling, frying and stir-fry. Another type of this form is the Silken Tofu which could be extended as if it could be if mixed with creamy sauces, desserts, marinades, dressings and. It is a must that water is drained through pressure on it for about 15-20 minutes.

Tempeh, which comes from fermented soya beans whole, is an ideal meat substitute. Just nip into a flavored liquid for cooking. Cooking tempeh usually takes one hour.

Seitan or wheat gluten, for its part would be best replaced by chicken meat products, and beans are not good alternatives for the protein-conscious people who may want lacto-ovo vegetarian their recipes for preparing soups, salads, stews and rice dishes.

But how does an individual a lacto-ovo vegetarian pantry cook it? Here are some tips and suggestions.

Non-perishable dry goods

• Canned beans

• Black beans

• Black-eyed peas

• Chickpeas (garbanzo)

• Great Northern beans (cannellini)

• Pink beans

• Pinto beans

• Red or kidney beans

Grains:

• Barley

• Bulgur

• Couscous

• Rice (long grain brown, basmati, Arborio, quick cooking, etc.)

• Quinoa

• Wild rice

Oils:

• Dark sesame oil

• Extra virgin olive oil

• Light olive

Tomato products, canned:

• Cubes, in 14 – to 16-cans

• crushed or pureed, in 14, 16, and 28-cans

• Tomato

Vinegar:

• Balsamic (Dark or white)

• Red wine or white wine vinegar

• Rice vinegar (for the Asian-style cooking)

PREPARED Spices, Sauces, etc.

• Barbecue sauce (great for frying or stir-frying tofu, tempeh, seitan, or)

• Pasta (marinara) sauce

• Pizza sauce

• Salad dressings (choose natural, low fat varieties of your favorites)

• Salsa, tomato-based, mild to hot if you prefer

• Salsa, tomatillo

• Thai peanut sauce

• Stir fry sauce

Pantry FRUIT

• Garlic

• Onions (yellow, red, or both)

• Potatoes, white (red skin are an excellent all-purpose potato)

• Potatoes, sweet (for the fall and winter)

REFRIGERATOR STAPLES

• Butter or margarine (both free and sparingly used, look for a brand that is free of hydrogenated oils and trans fatty acids)

• Cheese, grated (low fat if desired, or soy cheese)

• Parmesan cheese, grated fresh (or if you prefer, try Parmesan cheese, soy-style)

• Ketchup

• Lemons

• Mayonnaise (preferably commercially prepared tofu mayonnaise)

• Milk, low-fat or soy milk

• Mustard, prepared

• Tofu

• yogurt, plain and flavored

Warm Quinoa Salad with edamame and Tarragon Ingredients 1 cup quinoa (see note) 2 cups vegetable broth 2 cups frozen shelled edamame, thawed 1 tablespoon freshly grated lemon peel 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons chopped fresh tarragon 1 / 2 teaspoon salt / 2 cup drained and chopped 1 roasted red peppers in jars 1 / 4 cup chopped walnuts, preferably toasted (See Cooking Tip) Directions Toast quinoa in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring often, until aromatic and beginning to crackle, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a fine sieve rinse thoroughly. Meanwhile, boil broth in a medium pan over a high heat. Add the quinoa and return to boil. Cover, reduce heat to a boil and gently boil 8 minutes. Remove the lid and without disturbing the quinoa, add edamame. Cover and continue to cook until the edamame and quinoa are tender, 7 to 8 minutes longer. Pour the remaining water, if necessary. Whisk lemon zest and juice, oil, tarragon and salt in a large bowl. Add peppers and the quinoa mixture. Toss to combine. Divide over 4 plates and top with walnuts
